Holotype (unique): CAS-SU 6163. Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:54 [ref. 12291]. •Valid as Chapalichthys encaustus (Jordan & Snyder 1899) -- (Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:40 [ref. 22290], Nelson et al. 2004:107 [ref. 27807], Miller 2006:277 [ref. 28615], Scharpf 2007:26 [ref. 30398], Page et al. 2013:104 [ref. 32708], Huber 2019:24 [ref. 36941], Lyons et al. 2019:132 [ref. 37104], Silva et al. 2019:46 [ref. 37106], Piller et al. 2020:1008 [ref. 38043], Page et al. 2023:144 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Chapalichthys encaustus (Jordan & Snyder 1899). Goodeidae: Goodeinae. Distribution: Southern North America: Lerma and Grande de Santiago River basins (Pacific slope of Mexico). Introduced in Río Teuchitlán, Jalisco (Pacific slope of Mexico). Habitat: freshwater.
