Type catalog: Mead 1958:134 [ref. 20648]. •Valid as Pherallodiscus varius Briggs 1955 -- (Nelson et al. 2004:168 [ref. 27807], Page et al. 2013:173 [ref. 32708]). •Valid as Gobiesox varius (Briggs 1955) -- (Conway et al. 2017:[9] [ref. 35287], Page et al. 2023:152 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Gobiesox varius (Briggs 1955). Gobiesocidae: Gobiesocinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific. Habitat: marine.
