dypterygius, Gadus Pennant [T.] (ex Müller) 1784:lxxvi [Arctic zoology; ref. 18530] [No locality]. No types known. Pennant 1784 proposed name G.[adus] dypterygius and referred to Müller sp. no. 346 where description appeared; therefore, name is available from Pennant 1784 by indication. In Müller 1776:42 [ref. 17808] as "Gadus dipterygius, cirratus..." but not proposed as a binominal and not available. Also not available from Strøm 1767; see Gadus dipterygius Strøm 1767. •Valid as Molva dypterygia (Pennant 1784), subspecies dypterygia (Pennant 1784) -- (Ehrich 1983:140 [ref. 37253]). •Valid as Molva dypterygia (Pennant 1784) -- (Svetovidov 1973:313 [ref. 7169], Svetovidov in Whitehead et al. 1986:702 [ref. 13676] as dipterygia, McAllister 1990:119 [ref. 14674], Cohen in Cohen et al. 1990:63 [ref. 18936], Endo in Okamura et al. 1995:119 [ref. 22531], Fricke 2007:26 [ref. 30577], Møller et al. 2010:42 [ref. 31169] as dipterygius, Parin et al. 2014:182 [ref. 33547], Iwamoto & Cohen 2016:2027 [ref. 34586] as dipterygia, Mecklenburg et al. 2018:131 [ref. 36370], Martins & Carneiro 2018:47 [ref. 36550], Carneiro et al. 2019:146 [ref. 37250]). Current status: Valid as Molva dypterygia (Pennant 1784). Lotidae. Distribution: North Atlantic and adjacent Arctic Region. Habitat: marine.
