Paratypes: USNM 99198 (1), 99202 (1). •Valid as Hypopleuron caninum Smith & Radcliffe 1913 -- (Cohen & Nielsen 1978:33 [ref. 881], Paxton et al. 1989:312 [ref. 12442], Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:70 [ref. 24448], Nielsen 1999:1981 [ref. 24753], Hutchins 2001:23 [ref. 25847], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S99 [ref. 27377], Hoese et al. 2006:561 [ref. 29051], Ho & Fang 2011:2 [ref. 33333], Habib & Islam 2020:Supplementary table p. 10 [ref. 38321], Psomadakis et al. 2020:324 [ref. 37272]). Current status: Valid as Hypopleuron caninum Smith & Radcliffe 1913. Ophidiidae: Neobythitinae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Arabian Sea east to eastern Indonesia, north to Philippines, south to northern Australia. Habitat: marine.
