Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-Pacific: Aliwal Shoal (South Africa), East Africa, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar and Mascarenes (La RĂ©union, Mauritius, Rodrigues) east to Hawaiian Islands (U.S.A.), Pitcairn and Easter Island, north to Sea of Japan, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe Island (Australia) and New Caledonia; eastern Pacific: southern Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to Chile, including Cocos Island (Costa Rica) and Desaventurados Islands (Chile); presence at Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) questionable. Habitat: marine.
