Holotype (unique): BMNH 1917.7.14.45. •Synonym of Abudefduf luridus (Cuvier 1830) -- (Lloris & Rucabado 1990:843 [ref. 15959]). •Valid as Stegastes imbricatus Jenyns 1840 -- (Allen 1991:253 [ref. 19344], Afonso et al. 1999:77 [ref. 25466], Wirtz et al. 2007:37 [ref. 30263], Wirtz et al. 2013:130 [ref. 32972], Edwards in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2729 [ref. 34618], Reiner 2019:238 [ref. 38139], Parenti 2021:83 [ref. 38418], Fermon et al. 2022:251 [ref. 39448]). Current status: Valid as Stegastes imbricatus Jenyns 1840. Pomacentridae: Microspathodontinae. Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Senegal south to Angola, including Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, and São Tomé and Principe. Habitat: marine.
