Possibly appeared by mistake as Chrysophrys acutus in early literature, and was wrongly listed in the Catalog of Fishes 1998:39. •Valid as Cymatoceps nasutus (Castelnau 1861) -- (Smith & Smith 1986:585 [ref. 5710], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:222 [ref. 28072], Parenti 2019:78 [ref. 36892], Iwatsuki & Heemstra 2022:298 [ref. 39785]). Current status: Valid as Cymatoceps nasutus (Castelnau 1861). Sparidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to southern Mozambique. Habitat: brackish, marine.
