Holotype (unique): MCZ 28297. •Synonym of Omobranchus rotundiceps (Macleay 1881) -- (Smith-Vaniz 1976:149 [ref. 4144]). •Synonym of Omobranchus rotundiceps (Macleay 1881), but a valid subspecies -- (Springer & Gomon 1975:68 [ref. 6083], Springer 1981:703 [ref. 8545], Springer 2001:3545 [ref. 26290], Mundy 2005:465 [ref. 28379]). •Valid as Omobranchus obliquus (Garman 1903) -- (Springer 1972:14 [ref. 4178], Kottelat et al. 1993:130 [ref. 23448], Myers 1999:220 [ref. 23965], Allen & Adrim 2003:55 [ref. 26830], Randall et al. 2004:25 [ref. 27624], Adrim et al. 2004:125 [ref. 27715], Randall 2005:498 [ref. 28239], Randall 2007:378 [ref. 30952], Imamura in Imamura & Satapoomin 2009:251 [ref. 31162], Patzner et al. 2009:457 [ref. 30396], Lasso-Alcalá et al. 2011:575 [ref. 31520] as obliqus, Kottelat 2013:384 [ref. 32989], Fricke et al. 2014:151 [ref. 33932]). •Valid as Petroscirtes obliquus Garman 1903 -- (Springer pers. comm, 7 Apr. 2015). Current status: Valid as Omobranchus obliquus (Garman 1903). Blenniidae: Blenniinae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Andaman Sea east to Samoa and Tonga, south to New Caledonia, north to Japan; introduced in Hawaiian Islands and Kiribati. Habitat: brackish, marine.
