Holotype (unique): BMNH 1959.8.18.177. •Valid as Pungu maclareni (Trewavas 1962) -- (Teugels 1991:420 [ref. 20955], Poll & Gosse 1995:259 [ref. 24781], Reid 1995 [ref. 22138], Stiassny et al. 2007:351 [ref. 30045]). Current status: Valid as Pungu maclareni (Trewavas 1962). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: West-central Africa: Lake Barombi-Mbo, Cameroon. Habitat: freshwater.
