Paralectotypes: RMNH D399 (1). Type catalog: Bauchot & Daget 1972:68 [ref. 20898]. Lectotype established in Bauchot & Daget 1972:68 [ref. 20898]. •Valid as Pterogymnus laniarius (Valenciennes 1830) -- (Smith & Smith 1986:592 [ref. 5710], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:163 [ref. 25472] with Cuvier 1830 as author, Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:235 [ref. 28072], Parenti 2019:85 [ref. 36892], Iwatsuki & Heemstra 2022:310 [ref. 39785]). Current status: Valid as Pterogymnus laniarius (Valenciennes 1830). Sparidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to Beira (Mozambique). Habitat: marine.
