Paratypes: CAS-SU 14845-47 (1, 1, 1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:81 [ref. 12291]. A more complete description appeared later in Myers & Harry 1948 [ref. 5458]. See Géry 1983:71 [ref. 31279] for a discussion of the correct spelling of the genus Microgeophagus and for other comments, but his conclusions are not accepted by most subsequent authors; see Kullander 2011:5 [ref. 31677] •Valid as Papiliochromis ramirezi (Myers & Harry 1948) -- (Staeck 2003:184 [ref. 27488]). •Valid as Mikrogeophagus ramirezi (Myers & Harry 1948) -- (Géry 1983:71 [ref. 31279] with genus as Microgeophagus, Lasso & Machado-Allison 2000:126 [ref. 27968], Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:639 [ref. 27061], Römer 2006:1198 [ref. 28970], Isbrücker 2011:12 [ref. 31274] with genus as Microgeophagus, Kullander 2011:35 [ref. 31677], Staeck 2017:274 [ref. 35639], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:98 [ref. 35633], Urbano-Bonilla et al. 2018:90 [ref. 35773], Staeck et al. 2022:49 [ref. 39588], Cortés Hernández et al. 2023:457 [ref. 40760]). Current status: Valid as Mikrogeophagus ramirezi (Myers & Harry 1948). Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: Orinoco River basin (Colombia and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
