Second series. v. 6 (pt 3) (art. 5); ref. 909] Near mouth of Tumbling Creek, tributary to North Fork of Holston River, about 4 miles downstream of Saltville, Virginia, U.S.A. Lectotype: ANSP 2907. Paralectotypes: ANSP 2908-17 (11 or 10), 2918-20 (3). Possible additional type material: ANSP 3657-3658 (2). Type catalog: Gilbert 1978:75-76 [ref. 7042], Böhlke 1984:89 [ref. 13621], Gilbert 1998:143 [ref. 23395]. Lectotype established by Fowler 1910:286 [ref. 19840]. •Valid as Hydrophlox rubricroceus (Cope 1868) -- (Stout et al. 2022:7 [ref. 39738]Page et al. 2023:71 [ref. 40505]). •Valid as Notropis rubricroceus (Cope 1868) -- (Gilbert 1978:76 [ref. 7042], Lee et al. 1980:303 [ref. 22416], Page & Burr 1991:142 [ref. 18983], Etnier & Starnes 1993:222 [ref. 22809], Jenkins & Burkhead 1994:391 [ref. 21581], Gilbert 1998:143 [ref. 23395], Fuller et al. 1999:121 [ref. 25838], Nelson et al. 2004:75 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2005:32 [ref. 28940], Page & Burr 2011:269 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:76 [ref. 32708]). Current status: Valid as Hydrophlox rubricroceus (Cope 1868). Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae. Distribution: Eastern North America: Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee (eastern U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater.
