Paralectottypes: BMNH 1845.7.3.144 (1), 1953.5.10.2 (1), 1953.5.10.3 (1); RMNH incat. (1, whereabouts unknown); SMNS 4360 [ex UTZI] (1). Lectotype designated by Soares & Carvalho 2019:42 [ref. 36701]. Appeared first as name only and not available in Smith 1838:85 [ref. 4034]. Based on multiple sources, including manuscript name by A. Smith (BMNH). Also based on a specimen and drawing by Wilhelm von Rapp (UTZI), named Scyllium capense, specimen now in SMNS. •Valid as Scyliorhinus capensis (Müller & Henle 1838) -- (Compagno 1984:359 [ref. 6846], Gubanov & Timoxin 1989:221 [ref. 36138], Shirai et al. 1992:13 [ref. 19241], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:75 [ref. 25472], Compagno 1999:480 [ref. 25589], Soares et al. 2015:358 [ref. 33716], Weigmann 2016:43 [ref. 34211], Almeida & Biscoito 2019:63 [ref. 37302], Soares & Carvalho 2019:32 [ref. 36701], Soares & Carvalho 2020:379 [ref. 37593], Russell & van Oijen 2021:437 [ref. 38177], Ebert et al. 2021:54 [ref. 38234], Human & Ebert 2022:492 [ref. 39666], Leeney 2024:53 [ref. 40985]). Current status: Valid as Scyliorhinus capensis (Müller & Henle 1838). Scyliorhinidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: southern Namibia south to Cape of Good Hope(South Africa), then to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Habitat: marine.
