Misspelled as Syngnathus taeniopterus Lacepède 1804, by Günther 1865:327 [ref. 13948] and Waite & Hale 1921:313 [ref. 4569] and sometimes repeated by others. •Valid as Phyllopteryx taeniolatus (Lacepède 1804) -- (Dawson 1985:160 [ref. 6541], Paxton et al. 1989:428 [ref. 12442], Kuiter 1993:95 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:463 [ref. 22532], Kuiter 1997:74 [ref. 25488], Hutchins 2001:27 [ref. 25847], Paxton et al. 2006:839 [ref. 29073], Kuiter 2008:471 [ref. 30642], Kuiter 2009:158 [ref. 30404], Stiller et al. 2015:7 [ref. 33688], Lourie 2016:152 [ref. 34505], Hamilton et al. 2016:Supplement 3 [ref. 35615], Hoschke et al. 2019:155 [ref. 36626]). Current status: Valid as Phyllopteryx taeniolatus (Lacepède 1804). Syngnathidae: Syngnathinae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean, southwestern Pacific: New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia. Habitat: marine.
