Paratypes: BMNH 1911.10.31.59 (1); CAS 63726 [ex IU 12056] (1); FMNH 53220 (1), 53571 (1). Type catalog: Henn 1928:78 [ref. 12305], Ibarra & Stewart 1987:71 [ref. 12367], Ferraris 2007:353 [ref. 29155]. Appeared first as name only in Eigenmann 1910:384 [ref. 1224]. •Valid as Pseudopimelodus villosus Eigenmann 1912 -- (Burgess 1989:276 [ref. 12860], Grant 1999:47 [ref. 24295]). •Synonym of Pseudopimelodus raninus (Valenciennes 1840), but a valid subspecies -- (Le Bail et al. 2000:114 [ref. 24549]). •Valid as Batrochoglanis villosus (Eigenmann 1912) -- (Shibatta in Reis et al. 2003:402 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:353 [ref. 29155], Barriga Salazar 2014:113 [ref. 35745], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:95 [ref. 35633], Shibatta 2019:260 [ref. 36984], Koerber et al. 2022:63 [ref. 39235]). Current status: Valid as Batrochoglanis villosus (Eigenmann 1912). Pseudopimelodidae: Batrochoglaninae. Distribution: South America: Demerara, Essequibo, Orinoco and Amazon River basins (Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
