facetus, Chromis Jenyns [L.] 1842:104 [The zoology of the voyage of H. M. S. Beagle; ref. 2344] Laguna del Diario, 34°54'S, 55°00'W, in Maldonado, Uruguay. Holotype (unique): UMZC IV.290 [Darwin no. 660] [FF6640]. Chromis can be masculine or feminine; apparently Jenyns treated it as masculine based on his included species facetus. Distribution: South America: Uruguay River and lower Paraná River basins, and some short coastal rivers from Maldonado to Montevideo, Uruguay and Argentina and possibly Paraguay; Chile, Portugal and Spain (introduced). Habitat: freshwater.
