Holotype: FMNH 54090 [ex CM 2639a]. Paratypes: (9) FMNH 54091-92 (1, 6). Type catalog: Henn 1928:95 [ref. 12305] as CM 2439, Ibarra & Stewart 1987:28 [ref. 12367]. •Valid as Mikrogeophagus altispinosa (Haseman 1911) -- (Lasso et al. 2001:101 [ref. 25928]). •Valid as Papiliochromis altispinosa (Haseman 1911) -- (Staeck 2003:184 [ref. 27488]). •Valid as Mikrogeophagus altispinosus (Haseman 1911) -- (Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:639 [ref. 27061], Sarmiento et al. 2014:189 [ref. 35004], Staeck 2017:272 [ref. 35639], see DoNascimiento et al. 2017:[27] [ref. 35679], Careaga et al. 2020:77 [ref. 37774], Staeck et al. 2022:49 [ref. 39588]). Current status: Valid as Mikrogeophagus altispinosus (Haseman 1911). Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: upper Amazon River basin (Bolivia and Brazil). Habitat: freshwater.
