Lectotype: BMNH 1935.6.14.668. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1935.6.14.658-667 (11), 1935.6.14.669-673 (8), 1935.6.14.674-677 (4), 1935.6.14.678 (1); MNHN 1937-0167 [ex BMNH] (1); NMW 25558 (1). Type catalog: Blanc 1962:212 [ref. 20868]. Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:68 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Protomelas triaenodon (Trewavas 1935) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:66 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:392 [ref. 20944], Konings 2016:299 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Protomelas triaenodon (Trewavas 1935). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
