Current status: Valid as Scorpaenopsis obtusa Randall & Eschmeyer 2002. Scorpaenidae: Scorpaeninae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: southern India, Myanmar; central and southern Indonesia east to Philippines, New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) and Solomon Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands (Japan), south to northwestern Australia and northern Queensland (Australia). Habitat: marine.
