S.] 2001:205, Fig. 88 [Smithsonian Contributions to Zoology No. 613; ref. 25842] Río Orituco, Parque Nacional Guatopo, first bridge along road from Santa Teresa to Altagracia, Guarico, Venezuela. Holotype: MBUCV V-29288. Paratypes: MBUCV V-21032 (10), V-21244 (18), V-29289 (5); MCNG 18736 (36), 28752 (4); USNM 357730 (2, 1 c&s), 357784 (6). •Valid as Creagrutus taphorni Vari & Harold 2001 -- (Vari & Harold in Reis et al. 2003:126 [ref. 27061], Mirande 2010:544 [ref. 31006] as cf. taphorni, Mirande et al. 2013:763 [ref. 33366], Thomaz et al. 2015:Add. 5 [ref. 33893], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:58 [ref. 35633], Urbano-Bonilla et al. 2018:88 [ref. 35773] as cf. taphorni). Current status: Valid as Creagrutus taphorni Vari & Harold 2001. Characidae: Stevardiinae. Distribution: Largely in Orinoco River and Tuy River basins of Caribbean versant, Venezuela and Colombia. Habitat: freshwater.
