Collecting Event Remarks |
Water temp. = 11 C. This is a very small lake right on the north western edge of the flood plain of the Matanuska River. It discharges into a small distributary through a slow-flowing stream. Many schools of very small salmonids seen and a few sticklebacks seen (medium-sized). Nigel Russell dove in lake to look for sticklebacks; saw no fish. 75-100 Gasterosteus present in 2 size classes: large fish, complete morphs, one low nuptial male, no gravid females; and small trimorphic fish, some low nuptial males, many gravid females. The larger Gasterosteus appear to be anadromous, the smaller resident. Other species present are (in order of abundance): Oncorhynchus sp, Cottus sp, and Salvelinus. |
