Description Small figurine in the form of a pig with a spherical body and four short appended legs, two ears, nose and tail; Exterior of body is scraped very smooth and slipped white, then painted with two flowers (6 orange petals and black centers) and five black leaves (some open, some with geometric patterns); Tail, eyes, nostrils, and mouth are all highlighted in black, and each foot has small black line to depict split hoof; Signature “LENO / Acoma, N.M.” is printed in black paint on pig’s underbelly. Juana Leno is the mother of Rose Leno Chavez and Joyce Leno Barreras, both of whose work is also represented in the CAS collections.

Description Small deep round jar with flat narrow base and rounded sides that gradually curve outward to their maximum diameter at mid-level height, then gradually curve inward toward a narrow mouth and flat rim; Interior and exterior are scraped very smooth; Gray clay body coated with white slip on exterior; Exterior design consists of 3 bands; Upper band includes orange kiva steps that are pendant from rim, along with a curved black line; Middle band just below shoulder consists of motif of black diamond shapes, pendant from the upper and lower panel framing lines, each with interior diagonal panel of fine-line hatching; Lower band is similar to upper band but with the addition of a triangular pendant design; Jar is unsigned.
