Description Model of a single outrigger canoe, carved and assembled from pieces of lightweight, unpainted wood; Long narrow canoe has a shallow interior and is perfectly flat along the gunwales from bow to stern; The underside of the bow rises gently from the keel and has a small notched projection on the underside near its tip; The underside of the projecting stern rises sharply up from the keel and then gradually points upward and outward; The outer edges of both the bow and the stern are carved with a series of notches; The single outrigger and pontoon is positioned on the starboard side and secured to the canoe with two crossbeams that are lashed to the canoe with sisal string that is looped through two pairs of holes that have been burned through the upper sides of the canoe; Also lashed to the crossbeams are two carved oars or paddles.

Description A=Canoe; B=Smallest oar; C=Mid-sized oar; D=Largest oar; E=Fishing pole; Model of outrigger canoe consisting of hand carved dugout canoe with straight keel and tapered bow and stern; Canoe is constructed in two pieces, a deeper lower portion with a fitted upper portion lashed to the bottom; Cowrie shells decorate most of the lashings between the two parts; Stern is carved with a double protruding, fish-tail like end; Short wooden crossbars are positioned regularly across the hull from side to side; Fitted with single outrigger on port side, lashed to canoe with series of poles and plant fiber cordage; Three single-blade oars accompany the canoe, each with a leaf-shaped blade and long handle; Also included is s a re-moveable fishing pole that hooks into a loop near the stern; All pieces are stained a dark rust brown color.

Description Single-blade paddle for use with a kayak, with the blade and hand grip carved from a single piece of wood; The very wide and thin blade accounts for approximately half of the total length of the paddle and extends naturally from the hand grip, Lateral edges expand quickly from the hand grip to their maximum width, then show a slight constriction and a second expansion near their midpoints before extending almost parallel to each other toward the distal end, where they again taper to form a V-shaped point; Median ridge runs the entire length of each face of the blade; Hand grip is essentially cylindrical in cross-section and tapers slightly toward proximal end where it and a short crosspiece are pegged together with a mortise and tenon joint; Both faces of blade are painted reddish color on distal end beyond midpoint expansion; Diagonal black line is painted across both faces of proximal end of blade and similarly sized black line encircles proximal end of blade where it joins hand grip; Final 14 cm of hand grip and crosspiece at proximal end are stained a dark reddish but translucent color.
