Description | Adze consisting of a cylindrical wooden handle that is fitted through a round hole in a very thick rectangular piece of hide and nailed in place; Flat, rectangular hand forged iron blade is fitted into bottom edge of hide block, at right angle to handle; Wood is held tight with several wood shims; According to field notes, this adze is very old, probably made before 1928, and the Gabra acquire adze blades from Konso blacksmiths. | |
