Description | Adze consisting of carved wooden cylindrical handle that is slightly tapered toward proximal end; Hand forged iron blade has elongated handle that is fitted into socket at distal end of handle; Distal end of blade is hammered very thin, forming cutting edges along both sides and along front, and the front is then partially rolled back on itself, forming a curved blade; According to field notes, the Gabra acquired adze blades of this type from Konso blacksmiths, and used this type of adze to make sororas and other wooden objects. | |
