Description | Very large round coiled plaque with flat base and shallow, flaring sides, woven entirely in coiled technique over bundle coils; Warp material is galleta grass stems and weft material is natural and vegetal dyed split yucca leaves; Design consists of a large fret-like meander pattern alternating in black and yellow colors and forming a negative 4-arm whirling cross design in the center; Final rim coil is wrapped to its end in yucca fibers, indicating it served as a sweet cornmeal plaque as part of a wedding payback. | |
