Description Commercially woven rectangular woman’s shawl woven entirely in plainweave with deep green warps and wefts, with evenly spaced floating black warps and wefts inserted at regular intervals and woven 4/1 to produce a window pane effect of open black squares on one face; At each edge, the warp ends and weft ends are twisted together to form fringes; This shawl was woven at the Marangani Mills which is widely known throughout southern Peru; At the time this was collected, this type of shawl was increasingly popular as part of the “urbanized Indian” costume; Label sewn into one corner reads, “COOP> MANUFACTURAS DELCENTRO IND. PERUANA HUANCATEX.”
