Description | Commercially woven rectangular woman’s shawl woven entirely in balanced 2/2 twill weave with pale green warps and wefts, except for two decorative bands woven in each direction in colors of maroon, red, pink, white, gold, and two shades of deep green; Shawl was probably woven on a loom with the wefts continually looped back at sides to form fringe, while sections of warp were left exposed at regular intervals and then cut between adjacent shawls to form fringe on each one; When collected, shawls of this type were increasingly popular as part of an “urbanized Indian” costume. | |
