3-dimensional carved figure in standing position, representing Huhuwa, who was a Mishongnovi man who suffered from infantile paralysis, but was so kind despite his disability that he was made a katsina when he died, and who gives presents to children at the Bean Dance; Figure’s body is smeared lightly with white and he wears a white loincloth, black knitted leggings, brown moccasins, and red string garters; Large shell pendant on red string necklace is worn around neck; Mask with attached black wig (?) is painted tan and has exaggerated nose and mouth; Broad inverted red "V" is painted across nose and cheeks; Bundle of black feathers and corn husk flower are tied to top of head; Figure carries white stick in left hand and is mounted on cottonwood base. |
