3-dimensional carved figure in standing position, representing Sotuknangu (Heart of the Sky God), a powerful deity who controls dangerous thunderheads, lightning, and destructive rain; His body is painted blue-gray and he wears a carved and painted white kilt with white wedding sash (fringe of sash is made of cotton string); Green leather strips worn as bandoliers and wristlets represent Douglas fir boughs; His white case mask rises to single curved horn whose tip is blue; Mask includes orange tab ears and green neck ruff, and is painted with cloud symbols on each cheek and above forehead; Small gray and yellow feathers are glued in center of forehead; He carries bull roarer in right hand and an orange lightning frame (framework of crossed sticks that expand out in accordion fashion) in his left hand. |
