| Description |
3-dimensional carved figure in standing position, representing Tumae or Tuma-öi (White Chin Katsina); Figure wears carved and painted black dress with white maiden's shawl, and real leather moccasins with buckskin leggings; Mask is divided horizontally with the bottom half painted red and the top half being green on right side and yellow on left side; Head is completely covered with black human hair which is cropped just above figure's eyes and on sides, but hangs down the back and is held in place by a leather headband; Carved and painted neck ruff is black and white; Cavity on right rear shoulder suggests he originally carried a basket or similar item. (This katsina is always male, so hair, clothing, and moccasins on this figure are completely wrong.) |
