Description 3-dimensional carved figure representing Koyaala (Koshari) (Hano clown), who is both sacred and profane and appears in every pueblo; Figure is mounted on wooden base, seated with legs spread out before him and knees slightly bent; He is holding a watermelon slice in his left hand, while the remainder of the watermelon rests in front of him; His white body is painted all over with black horizontal bands; He wears a painted black leather breechclout with buckskin belt, black leather garters and right wristlet, carved and painted brown moccasins, and buckskin pouch around his neck; Eyes and mouth are outlined in black, and his cap includes two upright black and white horns with buckskin fringes; His short cropped hair is tied with buckskin in back in pueblo-style chongo; Title “Tewa clown at watermelon break” is written on base in ball point ink, along with signature “N David ‘73” and artist’s full name and address (Neil R. David, Sr. Box 676, Polacca, Ariz. 86042) and his tribal affiliation, “Tewa-Hopi”.
