3-dimensional carved figurine in standing position (with upraised right arm), representing Tasap Yeibichai Kwa-um (Navajo Talking God Grandfather), who is a caricature of the principal Navajo deity, Talking God; He leads a group of Navajo-inspired katsinam during the Navajo Katsina Dance; He is dressed in purple shirt, black pants, brown moccasins, real buckskin cape, and painted leather and silver concho belt; His white case mask has painted interlocking squares for eyes and mouth, a painted blue cornstalk for a nose, and blue ears of corn painted on each cheek; 5 carved and painted eagle tail feathers rise from back of mask; Green neck ruff is carved and painted; Small feathers tied to back of mask; Remnant of cedar (?) branch remains in left hand. |
