Description | Sled runner carved from a single piece of ivory; Runner is boat shaped overall with flat bottom edge curving upward at distal end; Sides flare outward along upper edge; Wide, V-shaped groove carved along entire length of upper edge is bridged in two places for hafting; Additional hafting provided by 3 pairs of holes along upper proximal sides and single rectangular hole just behind one of the bridges; Used on boat sled for hauling a skin boat across sea ice to open water or for hauling loads of meat for short distances across ice or along shore; Such sleds were usually pulled by hand. | |
