Description | Small round basket with flat base, vertical sides with recessed lip at rim, and flat round lid with overlapping sides, woven in combination of techniques; Warp material is cedar bark splints and primary weft material is bear grass; Base is woven in simple plaited technique using equal sized cedar bark for the central portion, with the perimeter woven in plain twining using rye grass stems as the weft material; Sides of basket and entire lid are woven in wrapped twining technique, with bear grass wrapped around rye grass stems; Designs on sides of basket include green band around junction of base and sides, orange and purple band around lower sides, and band of 5 red lightning motifs around mid-section; Designs on lid include large purple circular area with serrated edges in center of lid, encircled by red band on top of lid and orange and purple band around rim of lid. | |
