Description | Atlatl (spear thrower) consisting of a long, flattened shaft that tapers toward the distal end; Short, pointed peg that points back toward proximal end is affixed to distal end and embedded in mound of black spinifex (?) gum; When used, butt end of spear is abutted to short peg; Small rectangular cutout located along each edge of shaft near proximal end, forming hand hold; Both faces of shaft appear to have been stained with ochre. | |
