Description | Basket in the form of a stemmed goblet with wide flat base and a deep round bowl, woven primarily in plain closed twining, with single row of 3-strand twining at junction of base and sides of goblet's bowl and two additional rows around its midsection, and two rows of exposed, crossed warps on pedestal base; Warp and weft material is rye grass stems; Designs are woven primarily of worsted wool yarn in false embroidery technique and include band of short red and blue diagonal lines near outer edge of pedestal base, concentric red and green bands around midsection of stem, checked line (of dyed green weft) with regularly spaced alternating red and black yarn dots around midsection of bowl, and upper and lower framing lines of alternating red and green or red and black V's; Domed lid is woven primarily in plain closed twining with numerous single and double rows of exposed, crossed warps, and small knob handle on narrow stem; Designs on lid include band of red and green yarn around handle's stem and band with alternating blocks of red and blue yarn near outer edge. | |
