Description | 3-dimensional modeled figurine of a standing woman with her arms at her sides, bent at the elbows and her hands held in front of her chest; Figurine’s lower legs, entire upper body, and face are painted with rust-color lines and motifs representing body tattoos; A flaring bowl is positioned atop the figurine’s head, which originally served to hold a bundle of actual human hair that would have been styled in the traditional manner worn by Quechan women of the late 1800s; Figurine was also originally dressed in traditional Quechan clothing of the period, including beaded earrings; Figurines such as this were created for sale to tourists in the late 1800s. | |
