Description | Small but deep round basket with flat base and slightly flaring sides; Basket is woven entirely in plain twining except for single row of 3-strand twining at juncture of base and sides and 2 rows of 3-strand twining along the rim; Warp and weft material is spruce roots; Designs are woven in plain twining technique of dyed spruce roots and consist of parallel bands in alternate colors of red and black that encircle the sides of the basket; In the single row of 3-strand twining on the base, 2 of the 3 weft fibers are dyed black; Short and very narrow 3-strand braided handle in black, red, and undyed spruce roots was originally attached to interior rim at two points opposite each other. | |
