Description Round basket with flat base and vertical sides, along with round lid with low sides and flat-topped central chamber containing small pebbles; Warp and weft material throughout basket and lid is spruce roots; Base and sides of basket, as well as the lid, all have areas that are woven in plain twining and areas that alternate between rows of plain twining and simple plaiting; Designs are woven mostly in false embroidery technique, using undyed and dyed (red and green) bear grass leaves and black maidenhair fern stems; Wide band around sides of basket is divided into 3 large and 3 small rectangular panels; Large panels contain series of wide chevrons (1 green one flanked by 2 straw-colored ones) with remaining end spaces filled in half in black and half in red, and small panels each contain 2 black bisected diamonds on straw-colored background; Narrow red and green band below main design band is woven of dyed spruce roots in plain twining; Top of lid is divided into two concentric bands which are subdivided into quadrants, decorated with red and green or black and green bars; red and green plain twined band of dyed spruce root encircles each band.
