Description | Deep cylindrical basket with flat base and vertical sides, with the base woven in open plain twining (with paired warps, of which the fibers in each pair are diverted alternately to the left or right in the succeeding row of twining) and the sides are woven in closed plain twining; A single row of 3-strand twining is at the juncture of the base and sides; Warp and weft material is rye grass stems; Designs are woven of worsted wool yarn in false embroidery technique and consist of vertical columns of floating diamond shapes (red or blue) and cross-shapes (green with red centers); Matching domed lid is woven entirely in closed plain twining and has low side that fits over basket's rim and wide flat-topped knob handle supported on short narrow stem; Designs on lid include concentric green, red, and blue bands on handle, and diamond and cross motifs (similar to those on basket) between concentric red and blue framing lines on shoulder of lid. | |
