| Description | Small round burden basket with concave base and flaring sides, woven primarily in 3-strand twining; Warp material is probably whole willow shoots and primary weft material is unpeeled split willow shoots; Warp rods are bent over at rim and coil-wrapped; Second rim coil is also coil-wrapped and alternates units of natural colored willow with units of black devil's claw; Designs on exterior sides are woven of dyed willow and consist of 4 parallel bands; Three of the bands include both natural colored and red willow, with the addition of dyed black willow in one of them; the uppermost band is woven entirely of dyed red willow; Piece of rawhide covers base of basket, with four bands extending up sides and over rim, all of which were originally decorated with decorative rawhide fringes; Two groups of additional rawhide loops on upper sides of basket probably secured tumpline. | |
