Description | Large non-regional style rug woven in plain tapestry technique; Warp material is natural hand spun wool and weft material is natural, carded, and aniline-dyed hand spun wool; Design includes 2 large elongated gray lozenge shapes with black railroad track outer edges; Between the lozenge shapes are 2 small hourglass shapes in red and brown and a central red square with arrows pointing up and down, all on white background; Rug is framed on all four sides with inner rectilinear meander border in medium brown and an outer straight-edged border in dark brown; There are numerous lazy lines throughout the rug, but especially along the vertical center third of the rug; Rug lacks traditional selvage cords. | |
