Description | Large round basket with flat base and widely flaring sides, woven in coiled technique over a bundle foundation; Warp material is split cattail stems and primary weft material is peeled and split willow shoots; Designs are woven of black devil's claw pods and include solid black round motif that covers entire base, from which four terraced zigzag spokes radiate outward to the rim in a rotating pattern; Also extending out from the side of each spoke are two parallel bands that begin on the lower sides as lineal bands, then rise as columns of diagonally stacked triangles and then continue again as lineal segments to finally connect with the next adjacent spokes on the upper sides of the basket; Final rim coil is decorated with a false braid overstitch of black devil's claw. | |
