Description | Very large, round plaque with slightly domed center and whose outer edges curve upward very gently; Basket is woven entirely in wicker technique over multiple warps; Warp material is common dune broom stems and weft material is dyed rabbitbrush stems; Basket start shows a technique that was little used after ca. 1930; At the rim, one warp in each bundle is bent over and incorporated into a coil that is wrapped with yucca leaves; Design is a whirling pattern composed of a mustard yellow center within a narrow band of white blocks edged in black (representing a white cloud motif), from which four black spokes extend out to the rim and whirling white cloud lines radiate upward across an orange background toward another white cloud band around the rim. | |
