Description Round basket with convex base and rounded sides that slop inward to form a wide mouth; Basket is woven entirely in wicker work over multiple warps; Basket start shows technique that was seldom used later than ca. 1930; Warp material is sumac stems and weft material is natural and vegetal dyed rabbitbrush stems; At the rim, one warp stem from each warp group is bent over and incorporated into a warp bundle that is coil-wrapped in undyed yucca leaves; Two short loop handles that are half orange and half yellow may have originally been attached opposite each other at rim; Design on base consists of orange sunflower motif bordered in black; Design on side consists of concentric terraced zigzag bands in orange, blue, and yellow around mid-section, with adjacent colors being separated by narrow black borders; Narrow natural-colored band with black borders encircles rim; Background of basket is woven of natural-colored weft fibers.
