Description | Small deep round basket with slightly convex base and nearly vertical walls and short bale handle attached at rim; Basket is woven entirely in wicker technique over multiple warps; Warp material is sumac stems or common dune broom stems and weft material is natural and vegetal dyed rabbitbrush stems; At the rim, one warp stem from each warp group is bent over and incorporated into a rim bundle that is coil-wrapped in undyed yucca leaves; Base of basket is completely black; Design on sides consists of lower band of natural colored blocks on black background, followed by several additional terraced zigzag bands in orange, blue, and natural color; Short handle is orange in the center and blue at each end. | |
