Description | Basket fashioned from single sheet of birch bark which is cut and folded to form a rectangular base with 2 short and 2 long flaps, all of which are folded up, overlapped, and stitched together up the sides with dyed green split willow (?) shoots; Sides taper inward slightly as they rise toward the oval-shaped rim; Wooden reinforcing splint is placed around exterior of rim and secured with spaced coil-wrapping of additional dyed green split willow (?) shoots; Entire exterior of basket is painted or stained dark brown; Natural exterior side of bark sheet is turned to inside of basket. | |
