Description | Very large and deep round utility basket with round, flat base and vertical sides, woven primarily in alternating rows of plaint twining and simple plaiting, except for single row of 3-strand twining along juncture of base and sides, another at approx. 4.5 cm below rim, and a third one at 0.5 cm below rim; Band of diagonal twining measuring 4.5 cm wide encircles uppermost sides of basket just below rim, and narrow 3-strand braided band outlines the actual rim; Warp and weft material is spruce roots; Basket is completely undecorated except for band of diagonal twining along rim which forms a series of parallel zigzags on the otherwise plain-twined background; Pair of double-strand leather loops are threaded through upper sides of basket near rim. | |
