Description | Round basket with flat base and slightly flaring sides; Base of basket is woven in alternating rows of plain twining and simple plaiting, except for single row of 3-strand twining at juncture of base and sides; Sides are woven entirely in plain twining and the rim is finished with a row of 3-strand twining; Warp and weft material is spruce roots; Designs are woven of undyed and dyed bear grass leaves in a false embroidery technique, and consists of 3 parallel bands that encircle the sides; Upper and lower bands contain series of open black rectangles connected by horizontal bars, all framed between orange framing lines; Center band contains a zigzag line made of black and straw-colored parallelograms, also framed between orange framing lines; Framing lines of center band are woven in modified false embroidery stitch in which only every other stitch is visible on the surface. | |
